Finding a website designer

As a book designer, authors and publishers often ask if I can also design a website for their book. The answer is no. My focus is strictly on the design, production and printing of books, and staying up-to-date with changes in both the industry and the technology.

Website design is entirely different from book design in these ways:

• the "page" layout software is different (designers may use GoLive, Dreamweaver, or other specialized website software rather than InDesign)
• the pages are linked through a navigation system so you can click through the pages
• there is no extra cost for color! (color images on websites are RGB, rather than CMYK, the 4-color process used for printing)
• websites are "published" on the Internet, requiring specialized knowledge of website hosting, domain names, and things like SQL, HTML, XML, Java, Flash, shopping carts, etc.
