Love Letters to Art
by Robert Genn
Love Letters to Art chronicles some of the work of the Canadian painter Robert Genn. It mainly covers the years 1999 to 2007. During this period Robert produced paintings from the Rocky Mountains, the West Coast of British Columbia, the Mackenzie River, Lake of the Woods, Ontario, as well as other locations in Canada and abroad. Robert travels frequently and seems to be at home setting up his easel or portable paint-box just about anywhere. Montreal painter Jean-Pierre Bex says of Genn, "He is a true generalist/specialist, that is to say someone who is fascinated by everything and seeks to understand it ... a true artist."
The text included is for the most part derived from some of Robert's Twice-Weekly Letters. These letters, which follow Robert's working sorties and daily creative trials, go out on the Internet to artists and art lovers in 110 countries. Robert is a believer in the Brotherhood and Sisterhood of Artistsa world-wide community of creative people who happen to share the same joys and concerns. Always open and ready to communicate, Robert writes in a straightforward and accessible style. His enthusiasm for the world and life is evident in both his painting and his writing.
