Below are my standard quotes in PDF format for designing a typical book. These will give you a good idea of what costs to expect for the design and layout of your book cover and interior pages.

Please don't hesitate to shop around. You'll see that few designers offer such complete services for authors and publishers. Read what my clients say about my work, and be confident that you'll receive prompt personal service and a book you'll be proud of.

Remember, the lowest price is not always the best value! Look at the range of styles and depth of capability in the numerous examples shown here. Also know that my years of experience can help you avoid costly pitfalls.

I normally schedule new projects three to four months in advance. If you choose to work with me on your book, please let me know well in advance so I can set aside the necessary time for your book.

BOOK COVERS AND DUST JACKETS

INTERIOR PAGES

The quotes below are for typical books with 224 pages. If your book has more or less than 224 pages, then the time needed for typesetting will be more or less, and so will the cost of your mockup. But everything else will stay the same.

Simple (novel, no images, no special text treatments)
Complex text (nonfiction with headings, subheadings, charts and tables, text treatments, reference materials, footnotes, index, etc.)
Complex with images (illustrated books, either fiction or nonfiction, including art and photography books)
Full layout (books requiring special attention to each 2-page spread, such as cookbooks, manuals, technical reference books, etc.)

CHILDREN'S BOOKS

Children's books include a printed book cover, a dust jacket and interior pages, all in full color. The quote below is based on a 24-page children's book.

• what is the word count in your manuscript? (helps me estimate your page count)
• how many chapters are in your book?
• do you have any graphics such as charts, tables, figures, diagrams, etc.? if so, how many, and are they already designed or typeset? do they need scanning?
• how many images (photos or drawings) do you have? do they need scanning?
• will your book have an index, bibliography, glossary or footnotes?
• will your interior page design be Simple, Complex Text, Complex with Images or Full Layout? (see Interior Page Samples for an explanation of these terms)
