Finding a printer for your book

As a book designer, I often help authors and publishers to choose a printer for their books. The printers listed below have all printed books that I have designed, and they print books on a regular basis for authors and publishers.

Traditional printers (web or sheetfed offset press)

Central Plains Book Manufacturing
From their digital and traditional prepress to web and sheet-fed presses, they produce most of their work in-house so they can control costs and scheduling. In 2004 they added in-house casebinding and digital printing to their services, along with glued or smythsewn hardcover books for smaller runs. They give competitive quotes for print runs of less than 1,000 books.

Friesens
Manufactures books for publishers all across North America specializing in full colour hardcover and softcover books. They offer a full range of prepress services, printing and many types of binding options. Fulfillment and packaging services are also available. Located in Manitoba, Canada, they give very competitive quotes for printing and shipping books to the US. Hemlock Printers
Continues to be recognized for excellence in book printing at the various international printing industry award competitions. They have the latest digital technology available to make your book a success, from small children's books to large coffee table art books. Hignell Book Printing
Service, quality, and value are behind everything they do at Hignell Book Printing. Located in Manitoba, Canada, they offer complete in-house services for most medium and short-run book printing. Their prices for trade paperbacks are competitive.

Lammar Printing (Hong Kong)
Offering very competitive prices, particularly for color printing and any kind of hand work such as pop-ups, flaps, glued images, hand insertions, etc. They have the latest digital technology, and their prices include shipping anywhere in the world. Replika Press

Axess Printing
Axess Printing is a company located under one roof that prints and binds books in the same location. Specializing in digital printing, Axess provides bound proofs, proofs shipped within 3 business days and online tracking of job status.

Blitzprint.com
Blitzprint is based in Alberta, Canada and specializes in short run printing. They also offer online sales to authors who stock small quantities of books in their warehouse.

Bookmasters Inc.
Bookmasters offers short run printing (minimum 100 copies) plus a variety of services including storage and fulfillment, marketing and an online bookstore.

BookMobile
Bookmobile offers short-run digital printing for galleys, trade paperbacks, hardcover books and full-color illustrated books.

Fidlar Doubleday
Offers competitive pricing for short runs and advance copies.
