Finding photographs for your book
Photographs enhance book design and marketing potential.
Landscapes, people, places, objects, buildings, abstracts.
As a book designer, I'm always looking for photographs. Photographs contribute so much to both book cover design and interior pages. Photographs can capture a scene, create a mood or give a visual explanation, all while adding depth and color to your book.
There are three ways of finding photographs for your book:
- browsing through a photographer's portfolio for a photograph that'll enhance your work (that's what this section is for)
- hiring a professional photographer to photograph specific objects, people or places for you
- searching the Internet for "stock photography"photos that are readily available online from large graphics companies (see Graphics Online in my Resources section)
Below are links to photographers who have photographs in their portfolios that may be perfectly suited to your book. You'll see that each photographer has his or her own style and preferred subject matter. If you're interested in a photographer's style but don't see exactly what you have in mind, ask to see other photographs in their portfolio. The work shown here is just a sampling of what they have available.
Feel free to contact anyone listed in my Resources section directly. They're listed here for your convenience, and no referral fees or commissions are charged or collected.
